Isaac's Persuasive Writing: Insects, should we eat them?

Insects, should we eat them?

I believe that all people around the world should make the transition from meat and other foods to consumption of insects as a daily part of our diet, nearly all species of insects are edible and contain five times the amount of nutrition than that of normal delicacies such as beef and pork.

Usage of insects as regular food will provide more than enough vitamins and minerals for the humans of Earth when farming with livestock and gardening becomes scarce as the global population grows, it is estimated that by the end of the century there will be eleven billion people.

Harvesting insects will be a valued occupation for poverty ridden countries and areas,  only allowing for workers to collect money easily but also have a constant supply of nutrition and vitamins.

Insects themselves might even become a common compact superfood that everybody carries and enables a nearly infinite source of energy to rely on. This may not be the only food we'll ever eat if Earth does come to insect farming, we will still have to drink water even though most insects have water within themselves.

All in all, using insects as a source of food is a very good idea, holding worth five slabs of meat in one tiny body. As well as providing jobs and money I strongly believe people should stop thinking of bugs and insects as gross but instead as a very important player in the future of Earth food.

Christian: Why humans should incorporate insects int their diets

If you ever saw a bug in your food what would you think? Would you pick it up and eat it or scream and run away in disgust. If I told you to imagine biting into an insect like a cricket or a beetle would your mouth start to water at the thought or would you screw your nose up? if you chose the latter for any of those questions  then that's why i'm here, to explain to you my thoughts on homo sapiens eating insects.

The very thought of bugs tend to disgust people, especially the the thought of having them be in your mouth, however the amount of minerals and vitamins they contain is very surprising. Pork, chicken and beef have a comparable content of protein, however the amount of minerals and vitamins such as calcium, zinc and iron make you able to say curtain that insects are healthier than meat. The fat contained inside an insect is very low.

Also,  insects require less land to farm.  The amount of land to grow one pound of beef compared to one pound of crickets is  preposterous.  For every two hundred  square metres of land it takes to grow one pound of beef it takes only fifteen square metres to grow one pound of crickets. Which is a big difference,  say for every One thousand and two hundred square metres it takes to grow six pounds of beef that is only ninety square metres of land to grow six pounds of crickets. That means it takes less land to grow 13 pounds of crickets than one pound of beef which may not affect you but can solve the world's hunger crisis,  or the world's housing crisis. If we use more land for farming meat then we have less land for houses and living space and areas.
Water is a much needed part of a human's life without it we would not survive so we do not want any water getting wasted, However to produce one kilogram of beef it takes two thousand two hundred Litres of water. To produce one kilogram of pork it takes three thousand and five hundred
Litres of water and of course one kilogram of chicken it takes two thousand three hundred litres of water, which all take a lot of water to produce, but to produce kilogram of crickets it takes only one litre of water.

I could go on about all the reasons you should incorporate bugs into your diet but wouldn't you
Feel good after trying something new, maybe going out of your comfort zone sometimes.  After reading my persuasive writing if I asked you If you ever saw a bug in your food what would you think? Would you pick it up and eat it or scream and run away in disgust.  If I told you to imagine biting into an insect like a cricket or a beetle would your mouth start to water at the thought or would you screw your nose up? If you chose the latter for any of those questions  then I have not succeeded to persuade you.

Persuasive Writing by Ashleigh: Why we should eat insects.

People should include insects in their healthy diet.
BY Ashleigh

I agree people must include insects in their healthy diet, because insects include lots of nutrition and lots of energy in it. The bugs are way more healthier than beef, chickens and pork. Cows, chickens and pigs take lots of foods and lots of water to grow, so we should eat insects rather than meats.

Insects are the healthy food, not a disgusting food. Some people think insects are disgusting, because some of them are pests, like locusts. Some of them brought some disease, like lyme disease which was brought by ticks. But don't worry because the insects that you eat wouldn't have disease or poison in it, because they have checked the insects before they let someone eat it or sell it and they also make sure they don't have disease or poison in it. Some of the insect has poison in it but if you clean up it you can still eat it.

I think the insects are healthier than meats. The meats come from animals so if we want to eat meats we must kill the animal. Insects take less space and require less food to grow. Insects include iron, zinc and lots of nutrients. Insects are smaller than meat but it's got much more iron than meat, iron is very important because it gives you lots of energies so that you can, walk, talk and, do anything.

Insects are better than meats. They are better than meats because they can keep growing and the insects grow very quick but the animals doesn't so you should eat insects rather than meats. Which help your body. The animals grow very slow and take lots of time to turn adult.

Adult animals are getting killed by the people who want to eat meats, there are lots baby animals that grow up without parents because their parents are already get kill. Once the baby animals grow up they are going to get killed. If the adult animals get kill without baby we will have less animals to eat. Once there are no animals left we won't have meats and if we don't have meats our body won't be healthy so we have to eat insects.

These are all the reasons why I think we should include bugs in people's healthy diet, and there are all the reasons I think eating bugs are very important.

We should include insects in our daily diet By: Shanya

In Mrs parker's literacy group we have been learning about persuasive writing. Our topic is We should include insects in our daily diet

We should include insects in our daily diet?
By: Shanya

I agree that we should include insects in our daily diet, because it keeps you healthy if you try eating it, insects improves our environment and there are many other ways to eat insects!

Insects have a lot of nutrition. Scientific research has shown that eating insects is healthier than eating beef, pork and chickens. By eating insects it gives you protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and it is also low in fat, these give you what your body needs to stay healthy. Insects contain 80% protein, which is the body's vital building blocks. Many people in the world are already eating insects. Insects are more digestible, than eating meat. If you love eating lobster, peanut butter, chocolate and crab, then you are most likely eating an insect. Eating insects will make a good change for environmental problems.

Insects help our environment by not harming it. Insects are very enviro friendly because they don't do any harm to the environment and insects don't need high facility care. Here are 2 major problems in the environment, greenhouse gas and agriculture. We use 27,600 L of fresh water to produce 1 kg of meat. Although insects use fresh water, It only takes 1L to produce 1 kg of insects. That's because insects can be nearly hydrated by the food they eat! It takes 200 square meters of land to just provide beef, and only 15 square meters of land to provide 1 pound of insects.

Not convinced yet! Well if you don't think that it taste great then here are some ways to eat it. There are many ways to cook or even bake insects. If you look at it and think it's gross then hide the insect in your meal for the day. You think it might taste awful but people say that it taste like roasted peanuts, shrimp, chicken and popcorn. In some countries they drizzle it with chocolate, then snack on it. Say, when you try a cricket and you don't like, well there's a solution for that, there are many insects in the world that are edible and delicious. Eating insects, scrumptious and delicious, is like eating your favourite meal.

Eating insects is good for your body and is healthier, and also it will improve the environment because insects don't need huge facility care and is less expensive. I hope I have persuaded you to include insects in your daily diet!

Eating bugs ?

My point of view for eating bugs is to not . Don't eat bugs it's like saying " oh look there's a human , let's go eat him "  to be fair i don't want to be eaten . when you're reading this you're probably going " EWW why would people eat bugs " well i'm the same .

Have you heard of Cricket flour well it's made out of Crickets * Surprise * well anyway crickets are 80% edible when you could be eatin Chicken ( Yum ) . Anyway Chicken is 50% edible which is pretty good and yum  . Also BEEF ( i like beef ) it is 40% edible , sorry beef lovers ( like me, i may have let you down . ) When i say 40% edible i mean when you buy some meat. the providers take out all of the yucky yucky stuff .

Don't you wonder who eats them well Thailand , Brazil , China , Australia , Japan , The Netherlands , Africa and USA all eat bugs , which i find . . . disgusting . Bugs just bugs don't you just get the chills . I do . . . Bugs could have diseases and they have legs and a head amgen those stuck in your teeth , plus if you think about it there's 1 cow that can last for days for more than 10 days but then bugs you need like 1,000 to make one person full . . . and wow that a lot don't you think . . . anyway dont you scream from a cockroach  , because i do .

Haven't you wondered how many bugs are alive , well i know that in usa there is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 individual insects alive and yes that is 10 quintillion bugs ( i just got shivers. ) Dont you ever think some of the countries that eat bugs are poor . you're pretty lucky to live in such a good country that doesn't eat bugs we eat live stock from our own farms grown by kiwis our lovely country has us eating nice food not . . . bugs .

When we are eating chocolate did you know that there's cocoa in it with is grown out side , so bugs could fly into the cocoa with is then but into chocolate . so we all do eat bugs . when we are walking around outside there could be bugs we could inhale bugs while we are outside . so if you dont do outside and dont eat chocolate in anything and dont eat bugs then you are safe . . . but they are coming for you . ha . . . ha just kidding , i hope .

What if you find a bug in the bath with you are you gonna eat it , or hop out of the bath . Just one simple question , are you gonna answer it ?

Should we eat insects? By Sophie

Why should we eat bugs?

Who eats bugs? Anyone? Actually, bug are very yum. It's so sad that many people think that there are slimy, good-for-nothing pests. Why can't people learn and make use of the delicacies? So I believe that people should start eating bugs. Anyway, it costs almost nothing.

Did you know that 80% of bugs can contain protein? They also contain fat, minerals, vitamins and fiber. Much healthier than meat especially that most edible insects have more mineral iron than beef. Yellow beetle larvae have lots of minerals and vitamins and also 50% is protein.

Secondly, bugs make a lot less greenhouse gases compared to cows so you can also save the earth while eating it. That's because cows release 70-120 kg of methane each year while bugs produce significantly less.

Many people don't realise it but bugs are actually quite yum. Did you know that people didn't eat lobsters but are now eaten quite a lot.Maybe that will happen with bugs with the changes happening on earth.

Bugs could actually be the solution to world hunger. They can live in any place and they hardly need anything to eat. They also need extremely less water.

So therefore, I think we should eat bugs because of my reasons. Meat really needs a lot and isn't really good. Bugs can help save the world. Now, we just need to start eating bugs.

We Should Eat Bugs - By Elijah

For literacy we have been writing persuasive's. We were writing about bug's. Humans should eat bugs. We found this very challenging, as we had no knowledge of that topic, but luckily our kind teacher, Mrs Parker gave us some videos to watch to build knowledge. I hope you like my persuasive writing.

Humans Should Eat Insects As A Part Of Their Daily Diet
I think we should eat Insects as a part of our daily diet. Although you would probably scream at the thought of eating Insects, they are actually good for you. Insects are good for you because they have tons of protein.  They can also be used to make a number of different foods like chili cricket. "That sounds yum". Another fact is that they do not take much food or water to farm and will eat almost anything. That is why I very strongly believe we should eat Insects.

My first reason why we should eat Insects is they are very good for us and have lots of protein, vitamins and minerals. Insects have much more protein than beef. 80% of their edible body is Protein. While the rest, is vitamins and minerals such as zinc. Did you know insects have more mineral iron than beef. While also having about the same or more amount of protein. Mealworms are high in fibre and also has the same amount of protein as beef. If you live in america you could eat or drink Insects every day. It could be in your beer or peanut butter. In some food products in america a certain amount of Insect parts is allowed in food.

Insects also will eat almost anything making it really easy to farm for eating. Since they are so small, they will not need much food or to live in a big space. Insects and insects do not need much water either,  because they get fluids from the food they eat. Here's a fact to grow 1 pound of beef it takes 200 square meters, but to grow one pound of insects it takes 15 square meters. It also takes 22000 liters to farm 1 kilogram of beef, but it only takes 1 liter to farm 1 kilogram of Insects and insects. Insects are more economical to the society, so we should eat them as a part of our daily diet.

My last part of this argument is Insects can also be used to make a lot of different scrumptious foods if cooked right. Mealworms, an american food can be served in two delicious ways. You could satay them with butter and salt or roast in chocolate. Delicious food doesn't stop there. In Cambodia southeast of asia giant tarantulas are caught, fried then served. There are much more delicious foods and dish's that you could try. Insects are not only healthy and good for the environment they are also very yummy, scrumptious, delicious. Do you want to eat Insects now, I ask?

Are you ready to eat bugs yet? They are not so bad. We should all eat bugs as a part of our daily diet. Do you still not want to eat bugs? Well I could go on forever about why you should eat bugs. Oh so now you agree with me. Tell your friends and family to eat bugs and if the disagree show them this piece of writing and make this world a better place.
