Mission bay recount, By Sophie

Hub eight's trip to Mission Bay

Hub eight went to Mission Bay on the 7th of June. The purpose of the trip was to learn more about collaboration which was our concept focus.

At 9:40, we set off on the bus to Mission Bay. The bus was squished with all 67 students on board and the teachers and parent helpers. It was as windy as a fan blowing at Mission Bay when we arrived and we had morning tea first at Mission Bay before playing a little on the playground.

Next we had a sandcastle competition. We competed in the groups allocated by our teachers. Our group made a sea turtle with some sea scenery around it but it didn't work so well because of our lack of collaboration (Fares kept on mucking around and we kept on being bossy).

After the competition, we played three games in our guardian groups. The games were: relays with the baton, beach flags, soccer and the games were all played in the sand. I use to did not know how to play beach flags but this is how you play:

1. Let six people lie down in the sand. Their heads don't need touch the sand but they need to be close.
2. When the person shouts "go!", the six players spring up. They have to get one of the five batons on the other side of the racing area.
3. As there is six people and five batons, a person will not get a baton. This person loses.
Variation: You can play it with more people, e.g., ten people and nine batons.

Then, we had lunch. We played some more on the playground before having our race in the fountain with our wakas. We made the wakas at school out of flax, skewers and paper but unfortunately my waka blew away to the middle of the fountain because of the wind and Mr Stuart had to wade in the fountain get it.. Then, we went back on the bus and went back to school.

I really enjoyed the trip. I was tired but happy because it was extremely fun. I really want to go to Mission Bay again after the pleasant day I had there.
