Pativai's out of the box exhibition

Out of the box

What part of your exhibition are you most proud of ?

I am most proud of the dances because, most of us were very scared, including me and we got through it, with some encouragement. I am also proud of the musical because we did our musical and it was a success.

What area of the graduate profile do you think you have grown the most ?

Breakthrough because we had an successfully breakthrough for the musical.we got back up when we had mistakes in our dances and we carried on. It was a huge success, with all the people cheering us on and all of our mums and dads, helping us getting through this whole thing.

What feedback did you get from visitors last night ?

I got most of my feedback from my parents my mom told me " Well done awesome performance " my mum was great supporter for letting us use the titi's. My dad told me " Well done awesome show you and your friends did a great job.

What part of your exhibition would you have done differently ?

Maybe on the setting and on dances, because some of the setting you could see from the clothes and maybe just fill in the gaps, also the dance for the panda dance maybe we could work on the timing.

Who would you like to thank for supporting you in your breakthrough learning ?

I would want to thank Whaea Nin for letting us be in the group and all she has done for us, and the time that she has put into this. I would also like to thank Faith, Charlotte, Aaliyah, Jade, Shanya, Cooper and the supporters, for helping us get ready for the day. Everyone in the musical and the supporters encouraged us to go up on the stage and do our performance.

Pativai's Animation Of Rain

This is my animation of rain and it was written by a poet called Hone Tuwhare. I liked going through the process of animation because it is cool to see what they do. The poem was very inspirational with the things he said about if he could not see, hear, feel or taste.

Pativai's Mission Bay Recount

This is my recount writing and it is about my trip to mission bay and what we did over there. It was very fun and the thing I loved about it was that it was very fun collaborating with each other, and the sand castle competition. The thing the I did not like was that all the sand got in some of our eyes.

Mission Bay Trip

On the 7th of June it was a Tuesday morning and it was nice and bright. Hub 8 was going onto a special trip to Mission Bay we were going to build sandcastles and play fun games. We went there because we thought it would be great to collaborate with other people.

First we went onto the bus and off we went to Mission Bay. I got off the bus and then we sat down and ate. After we ate we went to go build our sand castles, we got in our groups and my group was building a waka. We all encouraged everyone to win but my friend's Aashna's group won and I was happy for her.

Secondly we got into our guardian groups and went to our guardian teacher and then did our games. I was with Whaea Nin and we were doing relay's. Our group won but then we moved, onto the next activity and it was called beach flags.

Meanwhile Mr stuart said we had to lie on our backs then turn over get up and run, to try and get the batons. There were only five battens but six people so then we played and ran as fast as we could to get them. In my first beach flag race I managed to get one and in my second I managed to get two.

Then the last rotation was soccer but different. Mrs Parker had to call a number out and then that many people had to run around the outline, of the cones in our first race I was in it and we managed to get an goal in. In my second turn I was goalie then I switched and then they got the goal. Overall the other team won.

After we went and ate lunch and after eating we came back into pronounce the people that were being determined and I got the first award. We ran to the playground and started to play on the swings. We played tag then came back in for the boat race. It was exciting although I did not get to bring my boat we cheered on Charlotte's boat.

In the meantime we got around the whole fountain and then we watched all the other boats go around it. We got our bags. Faith, Cooper and I did a special thank you to the parents and teachers to thank them for coming and supporting us.

I had a fun time doing all these games and fun activities. I collaborated a lot with my group a although we did not win we felt happy about our sand castle. Having to work with other people was really fun and we ad a lot of encouragement from other teams parents and teachers.

Pativai's Awesome Science Week

On the 17th of may in hub 8, all of hub 8 did science experiments cause of science week. We all rotated around going with our reading teachers first, then going on to the next experiment. We got to do three different experiments that I couldn't wait to do.

I went with Miss Parker first my literacy teacher and we did a fun experiment called the fizz inflator. First Miss Parker showed us what some of the ingredients were if you were doing biology for example, h2o was water and carbon dioxide was gas.

For our first fizz inflator bottle we put yeast h2o and sugar and we did that in a different bottle. We put an balloon on top to see if it was inflating to make the balloon go up. Miss Parker told us that we put the sugar in because the yeast needs to eat on something.

In the other bottle we put baking soda in the balloon we put vinegar in the bottle, then we put the balloon on and it reacted so quickly. I got to see the balloon fill up with air so quickly. I was wondering if you put in another ingredient would it still fizz up.

I thought that the way that it fizzed up was because of the ingredients inside of the baking soda and the vinegar then the, baking soda and vinegar combined it can cause a fizz and since we put an balloon on top trapping it, inside it filled the balloon.

I went to my second rotation this one was with  Mr Stuart he was doing dancing raisins. We first sat down and did a prediction before we got to the real experiment. My prediction was that the bubbles from the soda water would have some kind of reaction to the raisins. Since raisins are a solid and soda water is liquid it could do something to make the raisins float and sink.

I did my experiment with Faith and Shanya. We poured some soda water in the cup the we popped some raisins in. First the raisins floated then they sunk, we waited for quite a while and they started to go to the top. The raisins were kind of connected to the bubbles and I thought that the bubbles caused it to go up and down.

I moved onto my last rotation with Whaea Nin, she was doing the super duper hooper loopers. It was a kind of airplane that could fly really far and we also had a example and it flew really far. First we took an long piece strip of paper then glued it so the two end connected. We also did the same to small strip of paper. We glued it onto an straw with the hoops at each end of the straw.

The excitement of science was really fun, the super duper loopers was my favourite part even understanding why it flyed so far. The dancing raisin was fun to look at as it bounced like on an trampoline and the and the fizz inflator it just blew straight up by adding in one other ingredient it was really fun to experiment all of them.

Learning this week

The past couple of days have been busy busy getting to know one another.

Dylan, Elijah, Sophie and Seb sharing their
problem solving on the measurements of our waka!
Yesterday we were building knowledge about Kowhaiwhai patterns, what the different designs and colours represent. We applied this knowledge to make our own patterns, which share stories about our families and interests. To determine what size our kowhaiwhai patterns would be, a team of Hub 8 learners worked together to problem solve based on the number of learners and the approximate size of the waka.

Our painted squares will later be put onto our class waka along with our class treaty values.  Stay tuned to see the final product!

This week we've also been doing some sports rotations, getting to work together in teams and challenging ourselves to learn new skills.

Basketball Relay Games
Today we were practicing some maths games that we will be using throughout the year. Some of us got stuck in the learning pit, but collaborated and were able to problem solve to work out the math puzzle. The puzzle was called 24, where we had to use multiplication/division, addition/subtraction to make the four numbers on the card equal 24.

Sophie and Dylan K collaborating on one problem,
while Cooper and Pativai solve another.
