The Deadly Tsunami By:Cooper

The Japanese word for a "harbour wave" also known as a tsunami. The very deadly disaster that has taken out lives in many areas. The famous tsunami has been in movies and on TV. It is a criminal that can't be caught.

What are the causes
The causes of the deadly tsunami are usually caused by the tectonic plates of the earth in the ocean pushing up against each other. Eventually one of the tectonic plates of earth give up. One of the plates rise whilst the other stays at the normal level. The sea level will rise from the normal sea level.
When the sea level rises from it's normal sea level it will start to form a big wave. The wave will start getting bigger as it gets closer to the shore. That will make the tsunami. Another reason for a tsunami to form is because of a meteorite. When the meteorite hits the water the pressure of it turns it into a big wave. Like when you punch the water in the ocean it makes a little wave. It is depending on the size of the item hitting the ocean or water. The bigger the object the bigger the splash, and, the smaller the object the smaller the splash. It also is depending on the weight of the object. The meteorite is a less suspected because it hasn't happened much in areas.Image result for tsunami gif animation

       What can tsunamis do

The deadly harbour wave has happened in many countries such as Japan. In Japan the tsunami had taken away more than 10, 000 people's lives and they say that 1500 people are still missing.(NZ Herald, John Armstrong) The deadly wave had also happened on islands like Samoa. In Samoa the tsunami took away 190 lives.

How can we prepare for this

To know when a tsunami is coming is very simple if you look for these signs.
One of the signs to look for is if there water goes out very fast or it might come in very fast. Another way to know when is when the warning buoys alarm the people or you can check on the radio or tv. Sometimes if a tsunami or natural disaster is coming the animals will start acting very strange. If you see a meteorite coming close to earth you should start moving. It is best to get canned foods for any natural disaster. To get away from a tsunami go to the highest ground and warn everyone else.

Isaac- Tsunami, What is it?

I would like to share a piece of literature based around tsunamis and what they do, enjoy!

A Tsunami
What is a tsunami? Well a tsunami is a immense wave of water that is caused by natural disasters most commonly based underwater, these disasters being: Underwater mudslides, volcanoes and earthquakes. Most commonly caused by tectonic plates underground. All these natural phenomenons release energy, and that energy causes the giant walls of water we see today that devastate the world all too often.

Mistakenly, tsunamis are called tidal waves when actually they have nothing in common with the tides themselves, as I explained above a tsunamis caused by a large released amounts of energy through the water and are not affected by the tides. As the energy travels the water follows with it, and when the water hits the shallow area of the coastal beach, the tides starts receding rapidly and the affected water starts to slow down and rise higher and higher until gradually a tsunami is formed, but by then it's already too late.

A tsunami's damage to a country's economy and financial state is incredible, the costs of repair usually ranking up
to millions of dollars. Not including the leftover debris and the hundreds or even thousands of people who died in the disaster. After a tsunami coastal communities are hellholes of destruction, many of their inhabitants dead or mentally scarred by the event. Some of these communities have tried building large concrete or steel walls, but even these towering protective slabs of brick and mortar fail to protect these beachside villages or even cities and still these devastating walls of water power through, destroying everything in their path.

All in all, a tsunami is a destructive force of nature that adds onto the large amount of possible natural disasters, ranging from sinkholes to tornadoes and volcanoes. And when a tsunami does occur, remember to always move to the highest point in your area whether it be a mountain or building if the tides start to drag out at a faster than usual pace, most of the time many people don't notice it as it travels through the water until it hits the beach. Nowadays scientists check tsunami buoys regularly so that when one does happen, not that it does happen frequently of course. That civilians have enough time to evacuate the area to high ground.

Now that we have covered everything everything about a tsunami, the damage it does, how it's formed, the warnings you can see to avoid it and extra facts. Many tsunamis have played a big part in historic battles and happenings, and maybe even in a few years, a century even. People may find a buried city that was lost in time by a tsunami. Well that's  all folks!

Georgia's Tsunami Writing

Lately Mrs Parker's literacy group have been learning about tsunamis. Now we've gathered all the information that we've learnt and we have all made a piece of writing about them. Here's mine and I hope you enjoy it and learn a thing or two about tsunamis.

The cause and impact of tsunamis
There have been many tsunamis and people may wonder what causes them and what are the warning signs , who it effects and which country or city has the most tsunamis also how it happens and how to be prepared.

What Causes Tsunami?
Many thing can cause tsunami but the main ones are underwater volcanic eruptions , underwater earthquake , when tectonic plates move  and rub together , a landslide , storm surges , nuclear explosions  also a meteorite strike but that doesn't happen often. Some  scientist think that some tsunamis have something to do with the ring of fire , the ring of fire is a kind of half circle area where there are a lot of volcanos and also were a lot of earthquakes happen. This is because it follows a line around the pacific ocean where the tectonic plates meet.Image result for the ring of fire

What Is A Tsunami?
A tsunami is a colossal wave that is caused by many things it is like a wave of destruction. When it is in deep water its only little but when it is in shallow it can get really really big then when it folds over and hits the ground it destroys and floods the town/city. Also tsunami is a Japanese word meaning harbor wave.Image result for 100 feet tsunami real picturesScreenshot 2016-08-08 at 12.18.10 PM.png

The signs of a tsunamiScreenshot 2016-08-08 at 12.09.46 PM.png
 There are many signs of when a tsunami is coming these are the common signs. One of the signs is ripples in the ocean , also the tide goes back really really far back , the water moves and the waves travel across the ocean. There are also sirens that go off and warning buoys. Warning buoys are things in the water and they detect movement in the water and see if a tsunami is coming and when one is about to come they send a signal to a satellite and then the satellite sends it to a special computer and then the people who have the special computer warn people and tell them to get somewhere high.Image result for signs of tsunamiScreenshot 2016-08-08 at 12.18.02 PM.png

What to do when a tsunami coming
One of the first things to do when a tsunami is coming get as far as away from it as possible then get somewhere really high. Also call for help and listen. You can also get prepared before there is a tsunami like don't move where there are active volcanoes that are near the water and there also might be signs that your area/street or other is prone to tsunamis.

Image result for japan's tsunami wall
How it effects the city's/community
When a tsunami hits it eradicate everything that's in its way and when the tsunamis over it leaves a trail of destroyed buildings. When tsunamis hit it also uses up alot of money to rebuild. Japan tried to build a huge concrete wall to stop tsunamis from coming over and destroying their community because they get alot of tsunamis there and they're sick of rebuilding. But a tsunami was taller than the wall and smashed the wall and destroyed it again.

Conclusion
Tsunamis are really dangerous and cause alot of damage to their communities. There are alot of things that cause tsunamis and their are signs of tsunamis to. If you think you're in a tsunami use my information to help you.

Holly's tsunamis writing ( funny version ) EDITED

Tsunami Or Fate

In a Tsunami it wouldn't just be a wave it's a wave taller than me, so I don't think it's just an ordinary wave , it's my nightmare wave and at the same time, in my dreams for it to be gone but I wondered why? Why is a Tsunami here? Why is it call Tsunami? How was it made and what damage it's done? Thats what im gonna be finding out .  But first, where's a Tsunami at? Isn't there a thing called " The Ring Of Fire " and am I in it? The countries in ' The Ring Of Fire ' are Chile , Mexico , United States , Canada , Russia , Japan , Philippines , Indonesia , Peru , Ecuador , Panama and um what's it called New Zealand! Since i'm in New Zealand i'm in the ring of fire, now i just have to wait and wait, and wait… No that didn't work, I guess I have to do some research ONLINE !

I waited a little longer and didn't have a Tsunami sadly, but I did research and found some things like what Tsunamis are made from .  They are made by earthquakes , underwater landslides, a volcanic eruption or a large meteorite strike and Tsunami means "harbour wave" in Japanese . I thought about it  and what should we do if we have a Tsunami ? If you live in somewhere like New Zealand where there's lots of hills and mountains you're in luck so if you have warning signs of a tsunami get up high or what's it called RUN ! But I'm not sure that will work . Another thing that you can do is build a wall , no don't do that I was joking ... Yeah um sure I was . GET ON A PLANE now fly fly away far far away it will help, trust me .  When there's a Tsunami it's hard just to run away like Forest Gump , but at least we can run like a penguin waddling down the street .

If you thought hard enough than you would know that Tsunami's would have a warning sign before it happened so you might be wondering what happens when there's going to be Tsunami so here it is . When there is a Tsunami coming it's hard to pick out but you can spot it out by looking at your toes , no i'm kidding … Look at the way the water's behaving if it extra clear, and low tide at the wrong time of day it's sometimes a Tsunami but it's pretty rare , it is I could just be windy you can see fish and coral in the ocean and it pretty . You can also tell by the loud loud very loud plane crossing the sky no not a plane a bird no the WATER IT'S LOUD all the fish are probably dieing by now … Poor fish.

How Tsunamis work is there is power generated through the water to make stronger waves eventually getting bigger. Tsunami 's are more powerful than the wave size says the tsunami is there because of the under surface water that's strong and powerful If you think about  . Imagine if there was no water , then the earthquake from down under is the strongest earthquake like ever ! tsunamis are beautiful but the damage is incredible ! but there is damage that comes along sadly it's ruined families , countries , citys and so on . I wonder if the tsunami has felling is it sad , mad or happy is the … Tsunami happy ... MEAN TSUNAMI ! ...

Over all the tsunami can hurt me. Bad boy … Im just joking the tsunami is a non supported structure made by energy , power and the underwater world all mixed together = death . It's tension is supported until it hits the ground . BOOM POW EXPLOSIONS ! Just my luck still no Tsunami, oh well anyway … Tsunamis hit the ground and all the support for the energy has collapsed on to the ground BOOM water everywhere = flood = no more buildings and sadly no more people no cats … Poor cats no kittens I Need a tissue . Waa , ok i'm alright , now …

So in the finishing process of a Tsunami you might need a new house and cat, but insurance should cover it hopefully the cat too. Tsunamis are pretty rare so you should be ok but if you are in a Tsunami you should feel special … But still you might be dead-ish well no really dead sorry about that . Yeah sure I am … Anyway when you see a Tsunami run for the hills literally.

I hope you found my writing helpful in some way, and funny :D

The Cause & Impact Of Tsunamis

What is a tsunami you ask?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well a Tsunami - (Su-na-mee) Is a huge wave basically like the artificial waves you see in surfing/action movies. The word in general Tsunami is a japanese word meaning harbour wave, Pronounced
They the tsunamis are part of the natural disaster family that just come from the Sea, usually caused from other disasters on land sending the energy vibration out to sea.
How on Earth is it caused?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The cause of a tsunami if usually underground natural disasters, (For example Etc. Some are because of volcanic eruptions in the Sea which can cause the water to shake while making it rise slowly while moving forwards to the Island.)

Signs Of Tsunamis Coming is If you were to be in your house watching the news they could warn you, because they could've talked to scientists and they would have studied it then told the news reporters. You could be at the beach and all of a sudden you might be able to hear a huge roar like a train or an airplane approaching but it's just the Tsunami approaching the Shore In Front of you also the water would retreat into the deep end/ out of the harbor and come back as this huge!! GIGANTIC WAVE.

Other things like A land earthquake can also affect the Sea/sea because the island may shake causing the water surrounding it to move into ACTION! DUN DUN DUNNNN.. Landslides, volcanic eruptions or large meteors and other disasters cause this. Most people call them tidal waves but THEY ARE SOOOO DIFFERENT.. Well I think , so.. here is the reason, Although they both come from the sea (A.K.A sea waves) A tsunami and a tidal wave are two different and unrelated waves. A tidal wave is the wave motion of the tides. A tidal wave is a shallow water wave caused by gravitational interactions between the sun, moon and earth.

What should you do if you were to see or hear a warning sign of a tsunami?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You should take caution of all the warning signs people, the news and friends give you,
If you were to hear the tsunami warning siren (dash – dash – dot – dot) going on for 15 mins you should have to evacuate the beach If you were to be close by. If you are at home or in the car and you hear it you should probably listen to the radio for some useful information on the monster wave, or the other side of this question.. If you are at home and hear it through a window or something… same thing as the car you should probably turn on your tv and look for information. If you were to be at your work or your very own business you should either way prepare everyone to evacuate the tower/building if you and other workers are near the sea with you, for safety reasoning you should do this if you were to be in that situation. If you were to hear the evacuate tsunamis coming siren (dot - dot - dot) you should run to the nearest high ground (high mountain) not a building because it could be destroyed!!! If you are in need of more energy and you DEFINITELY NEED SOMETHING and it's necessary you should use a car only if NECESSARY.
Random Info:
~~~~~~~~~~

Countries that get the tsunamis are usually in the ring of fire for example here are the countries names (Etc. Japan, Canada, Chile, Russia, Mexico, Peru and others) Well sadly NZ (New Zealand) Is in the ring of fire ,so we could have one hit at any moment AHHH!! Anyway you may be asking what the ring of fire is, well it is The Pacific Ring Of Fire!! That wraps around the pacific ocean including all of the countries I just Explained And they within those countries are available to… killer earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis , so yeah…

Tsunami

Tsunami means horrible wave in Japan because it can crash all the things and it can also wash over lots of thing and wash the people away. Tsunami can travel very fast it can reach speeds more than 700 km per hour.

How it is formed🌊? Tsunami is come from undersea earthquake undersea island slide, nuclear bomb, undersea volcanic eruption (The lava is come from the center of the Earth) and meteorite if one of those thing happened it will push the wave into Tsunami. Tsunami can make the seashell crash into people's body.In 1946 there was an Nankai earthquake it made a tsunami in Japan.

What is tsunami warning signs⚠? Tide goes out quickly, warning siren, broadcast and tsunami warning buoy,  You can also watch TV or listen to the radio to know the tsunami is close to the land, if you live close the the sea you can see the tide goes out quickly or the tsunami warning buoy. If you know the tsunami is coming you better to go to the high ground or the place where not close to the sea. If you went to the safe place you need to stay away until you are told it is safe to return home and you also can learn about the tsunami risk in your area.

What can tsunami make🌊? Tsunami can make lots of damaged and wash the foods away, muddy watery land and water supplies. The tsunami break the roads so it's hard to bring the people in the hospital, the people who work in hospital need to help the people who get hurt.

This is the information about tsunami if the tsunami is near the land you better to plan an evacuation route from your home, school or work to higher ground.

Tsunami explanation

🌊🌊🌊🌊🌈Tsunami explanation🌊🌊🌊🌊🌈

A Tsunami is formed by a large amount of water that becomes an unusual wave. Tsunamis can wash away a large amount of land and lives.

How is a Tsunami formed?

Tsunami's can be caused by a nuclear explosion, eruption, landslides, earthquakes and meteorite. So when one of those things happen it sends a vibration of energy through the water, then as it get closer to land it rises taller but it starts to reduce its speed. The giant wave moves more slower as it gets to land because the water depth is lower so it can't draw as much water as it did in the deep ocean water. Then it will slowly approach land, then CRASH it hits land!

What are the warning signs?

There is a siren that will send a loud ring to warn people to get to higher land. The warning buoy is to tell the shipperman that there might be a Tsunami coming. The tide will go in at a large amount of water, this can be useful if you are at the beach, because will be able to see the water. There is also another warning signal if you are watching TV, the broadcast. There is also a seismographs that scientist use to detect an underwater earthquake that could or would cause a tsunami to be formed. Families that live closer to shore are warned as soon it could happen, because they are the closest to the tsunami. Sometimes animals will act unusual.

How much damage is caused?

There is many damage that can be caused by the powerful Tsunami. Tsunamis lead to DEATH as well. Tsunamis can also destroy your crops, which makes survival nearly impossible, Tsunamis also take away fresh water from everything in its path, so you won't be able to use your tap in the next few days. The tsunami makes it even more harder to escape, because the roads, grass and motorways will be scraped of land like a giant lawnmower! Nearly everything in a tsunamis way is crushed or destroyed into big and tiny pieces by the force of the water.

There are some ways you could stay safe like learning about tsunamis and packing a survival kit containing things that you might need to stay safe.The are how a Tsunami can be formed, The warning signs and how much damage can be caused. This is a writing about what is a Tsunami.
